Please Note:  The LEVEL 2 course will be held in Blue River, BC DEC 12-22, 2009 

  In 1998, in response to a shortage of qualified Guides with the skills necessary for the Mechanized Ski Industry, the BC Heli-Skiing and Snowcat Operators Association issued a mandate to start a Guides training organization.

The first courses were run in 1990 and the Canadian Ski Guide Association (CSGA) was incorporated on Feb. 8, 1996. The Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to the training of Guides for the Mechanized Ski Industry.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION

• To provide training, education and certification for Canadian Ski Guides
• To promote awareness of mountain hazards and safety to the general public
• To maintain high standardization criteria
• To provide facilities for training and education
• To provide employment for Canadians as Professional Ski Guides to provide training, education and certification for Canadian Ski Guides

COURSES

The program is structured such that the prospective Guides take an introductory Level 1 Course. Once the Level 1 requirements are met, the Guides progress through an Apprenticeship and on the job training eventually reaching the Level 3 Course and standard after a four to five year period. Safety and loss prevention are the main focus of the teaching process.
