In 1988, in response to a shortage of qualified guides with the skills necessary for the mechanized ski industry, the BC Heli Skiing and Snowcat Operators Association issued a mandate to start a guide training organization. The first courses were run in 1990 and the Canadian Ski Guide Association (CSGA) was incorporated on Feb. 8, 1996. The CSGA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the training of guides for the mechanized ski industry. OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION
COURSESThe program is structured such that the prospective guides take an introductory Level 1 Course. Once the Level 1 requirements are met, the guides progress through an apprenticeship and on the job training, eventually reaching the Level 3 course and standard after a four to five year period. Safety and loss prevention are the main focus of the teaching process. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me personally.
